Note: Michael Jackson has passed away on 6/25/2009. Jackson has left great legacy in pop culture and influenced virtually every artist that came after him. Hiro Super is certainly one of them. This post is Super’s reaction to this tragic news.

Note 2: Hiro Super will be performing in the Kate Crash band tonight (6/26/2009 Friday) in Glendale in the U.S. states of California. The venue is the Scene, and the band’s start time is around midnight.   

マイケル・ジャクソンが帰らぬ人となりました。このショービズ界の超大物の訃報、全く予想していなかった出来事だけに、未だに規模の大きなジョークなのではと思ってしまいます。

まさに不意打ちだった今回のマイコーの死去、私と同様に反応に戸惑う人が多いようです。

それは彼が、既に長年にわたり“生きる伝説“としてポップカルチャーに君臨していたからかもしれません。

マイコーのエンターテイナーとしての功績はご存知の通り、凄まじいものがあります。ジャクソン5、ムーンウォーク、スリラー….。彼の代名詞ともいえるこれらのキーワードは、彼が活躍した時代のポップカルチャーの象徴であるだけでなく、まさにその時代を作り上げたものといっても過言ではありません。

「スリラー」に関しては、ミュージックビデオというアートフォームを一手に作り上げただけでなく、このアートジャンルの最高峰として、未だに世界中の映像・音楽アーティストが留まることなく分析を続けています。

私Hiro Superが出演する Kate Crashの「Sawago!」ミュージックビデオも、マイコーの「スリラー」の影響を少なからずとも受けたものといえます。

伝説の人、マイコー。伝説のエンターテイナー、マイコー。

そして、マイコーを語る上で欠かせないのが彼に纏わる数々のスキャンダルです。

黒人から白人への変身手術。その副作用ともいえる肌、顔面の変容。未成年者に対する性的虐待の疑惑。奇妙な言動の数々…。

この一連のスキャンダルも誰も真似の出来ないマイコーの伝説です。

世界中のファン、メディアが彼の訃報に対し反応に戸惑っているのは、このスキャンダル伝説が、エンターテイナーとしての彼の伝説に大きく影を落としているからでしょう。

何はともあれ偉大な存在、マイケル・ジャクソン。

日本のファンの皆さんへ

ハリウッドを代表する名クラブ「The Viper Room」での ケイト・クラッシュ・ショー。春のレジデンシーを締めくくる先週のショーは大盛況の内に幕を閉じました。

今回は普段以上に実験的な事をしようという事で、お馴染みの自分のショーイントロが一新される事に。

西部劇がモチーフの「Lez Get Criminal」をオープニングでプレイする事になった事にあわせ、自分が担当するショーイントロもウエスタン風に変わりました。

ケイト・クラッシュが書き下ろしたそのドラマチックな新モノローグ。先週のショーのハイライトのひとつとなりました。

昨日届いた業界関連者からのメールによると、自分のパフォーマンスは、喜劇王チャップリン、フランスの伝説のパントマイムアーティスト　マルセル・マルソー、そしてブロードウェーの大スター、「キャバレー」のジョエル・グレイを彷彿とさせるものだったとの事。自分が最も敬愛する大先輩、心の師匠である三大巨匠です。

「ヒロ・スーパー」という特異なキャラクターをステージで演じ続ける事で、少しでもこの三大巨匠の領域に近付ける事が出来ればと思います！

今回のショーでは、「Lez Get Criminal」が1曲目になった事により、自分が強力なインパクトを残す「Sawago」が曲目から外れるとの事でした。また、叙情的な「A Pirates Life for Me」という新曲が、ラストソング「Clothes Off」の前に披露される事になり、ケイト・クラッシュ・ショーの名物となった、自身による愉快でスピード感溢れるバンドメンバー紹介の部分がカットされるとの事でした。という事で、このショーでは冒頭の「Lez Get Criminal」モノローグと曲中のアクティングの後は、殆ど自分の出番がなくなり、パフォーマーとして少し物足りない感じでした。

しかし、ショー直前に「Sawago」が曲目に復活し、新曲「Generation of the Bored」ではキーボードを担当、「A Pirates Life for Me」ではパペットを用いたバックコーラスを担う事になるなど、最終的には、いちアーティストとして非常に“おいしい“ショーとなりました。バンドメンバー紹介が出来なかったのが、やはり残念ですが…。

The Viper Roomレジデンシーは一区切りが付いたのですが、僕たちは今後も休むことなく、国内外さまざまな場所でショーを繰り広げていきます。今後の僕らの活躍お楽しみに！

My Japanese fans and friends have been telling me how beautiful cherry blossoms are now in Japan. It’s April now, and I really wish I were there to do “Hanami” (picnic under cherry blossoms, with lots of booze, songs, and cheery spirits) with fans and friends.

It was raining, but Hanami was enjoyable no matter what.

My days of wine and roses are long gone, but I am so addicted to Hanami because it’s just so perfectly fun nevertheless.

What’s so special about Hanami and this April time in general is that cherry blossoms are in full bloom only for a week or so. Before that blooming period, it’s been a slow buildup that goes on for a year.

Good Hanami for young adults ends with a trip to a restaurant. This was after the Himonya Hanami.

As blooming comes to end, the trees lose their beauty right away, and the ground looks messy covered with dirty pink as flowers come off the trees. For about a week or two, the streets look that way until the dirty pink becomes just dirty and merges with the ground.
Nothing lasts forever.

In this age of mass consumption and material abundance, transient beauty of life is something people don’t stop and think about everyday. They just go for instant gratification and so mindlessly take speed over depth of things.

I have always thought that this mentality of speed over depth is a huge problem that can endanger the future of the world.

I have so much to say about this issue and was once ready to leave my artist / entertainer career behind and commit the rest of my life to writing and making speech about the issue to correct the problem.

The movie introduces Eddy to the global cinema community. Eddy is Super’s only official costar in the film.

I told my filmmaking partner / good friend Cris Ubermann (”Haktiva“, “Film Noir“) my intention to qui acting for this goal .

For the first time when I am not in shoot with this great movie director, Ubermann frowned and showed a bit of annoyed look. I immediately took this reaction as “direction”, which I have learned, from working with him in so many movies, is the wisest route I can follow when I am not so sure about things.  And, Ubermann said this.

“Let’s do mozz. You are Mozz Man”.

Those two lines made me realize that I am a guy born to be in the pictures and can do anything and everything as artist / entertainer. Whatever message I must convey, I can do it as actor in this great tool, cinema.

Mozz Man is the embodiment of everything I would like to say about this issue. I don’t want to say anymore about the character of Mozz Man, because Ubermann and I would like to let moviegoers experience and discover him completley from scratch.

With the help of Kurumi Uchino, who is one of today’s most sought-after makeup artists / hairstylists in Hollywood, Ubermann and I created and released Mozz Man to the world.

To prepare for the Mozz Man role, Super spent considerable amount of time in the wilderness with wild animals. This is a real wolf.

We are so proud of this character and have decided that hen should be explored further.

Mozz Man will walk the earth again.

Hiro Super is known for generous fan services. Super was quoted as saying fan support and good diet make it possible for him to keep making challenging movies.
